When I was little, my favorite stories started "Once upon a time." Even if the first page didn't really say those words, I "read" them in my mind. I jumped down Alices' rabbit hole to Wonderland with her. I cried with Wilber when he found out Charlotte would die and rejoiced when her spiderlings soared on their silky threads.
Stories felt as real to me as my everyday world. Even though I knew it was make-believe, wouldn't it be cool for a cat in a red and white striped hat to knock on my door one wet, wet, wet day?
When I grew up, I traveled to my favorite story places with my children.. I loved to see their wide eyes as they thought about possibilities and impossibilities.
When you find a favorite story, try to live in it for a little while. You might find a "happily ever after!"
